Vote for McCain...I guess

Hey Team, it is that time...well, not exactly, but we are much closer to the November 4th election than we were in January 2007. It was then that I thought to myself, "is this an election year?" This is basically my way of saying that the political guru's started very early this presidential cycle.

Back on track, my favorite political bumper sticker to date is..."Vote for McCain...I guess"

Historically I have been a conservative, non-compassionate, free-market, somewhat libertarian, but mostly republican voter. I hesitate to capitalize the word republican because I'm not that proud of the grand old party, although it does seem to be the lesser of the two evils when I think of my worldly concerns. Uh oh, I sense a story coming on...

One day a young man was walking down an old dirt path in the middle of the woods. We'll call him Henry. Well, Henry was on his way to the market from his quiet home in the country. It had rained quite a bit the preceding week, so he had to avoid some muddy situations. Upon walking the dirt/muddy path, Henry quickly finds himself in quicksand of all things! He knows not to panic, but it's quicksand!!! Sure enough, Henry begins to sink up to waist. After one hour of slowly sinking further and further, a registered republican walks along the path towards Henry. Robert (republican) yells to Henry, "I will help you! I have a rope that I can tie to a tree that is very strong!" Henry thinks to himself, "Thank God! I'm saved!" Robert ties the rope to the strongest tree with a professional sailor's knot. As Henry waits in anticipation, Robert makes the final finishing touches to the knot, grabs the slack in the rope and throws it toward Henry. "It's too short!! I can't reach!!!!" yells Henry. The republican shares his deepest simpathy, unties his rope, and continues on his way.
Another hour passes...Henry is now up to his shoulders in the quicksand and he is becoming very worried.
All of a sudden, a registered democrat walks down the path towards Henry.
Henry yells to Esteban (the democrat with a lisp) to help him immediately! Esteban does not hesitate to respond into quick action. He yells, "I can help you, I have a very long rope for you!" Henry is so happy as he begins to pull on the rope to safety until Henry realizes something is just not right. The democrat did not tie the rope to anything!!! It is already too late and the rope has been completely pulled into Henry in the quicksand.
"NOOOO!!!! What is wrong with you!?!? The republican threw me a rope that was tied strong to a tree, but it was far too short! And now you, a democrat threw a very long rope to save Henry, but it was not tied to anything! Unbelieveable!

The moral of the story, whether democrat or republican, you're still fucked!

To be quite honest, I think this entry will have to be more than just one part. I can't imagine putting all of my thoughts about our current political realm in just one blog entry. To be honest, I'm only getting started....
Expect to hear my non-compassionate theory on our perfect healthcare system (not being sarcastic) and the history and original purpose of the social security program. Not to mention our discussion of federal income tax. Stayed tuned...
