Tough, but fantastic weekend of bike racing. If you're only happy when you do well, then bike racing is not for you. I wanted to do better this weekend, but that's it. The rest of the weekend was a dream. Katie and I had a great "pre-kid" road trip to Fayetteville Texas (between Austin and Houston).
I raced in the Category 4 stage race. 70+ in my field. There were some legit dudes out there.
Saturday files:
46 mile Road Race - Garmin File. 34th in Road Race. Was 3rd wheel at 800 meters. Pulled a Leroy Jenkins by going way too early... and it was an uphill sprint. Total misjudgement and bad timing.

6.6 mile individual time trial - 12th place. I was happy with my effort here. 180+ BPM average for 16 minutes was right at puke mode.

Sunday file:
49 mile Road Race - 7th place. Got in a 8 man break on lap 2 after a steep hill that didn't last. Bummer. For the sprint finish, I was too far back with 1k to go. Had to do some weaving and finished 7th.

I have no idea how I finished overall. Katie and I did not wait around to find out and they still haven't posted it online. We'll see tomorrow.
Very thankful to God for keeping us safe as we traveled and for keeping my bike upright. No crashes is always a blessing.
Special thanks to Katie Self. Her unwaivering positive attitude and support this weekend was out of this world. We had a fantastic weekend together.
Jason Ross gets a big hug for letting me borrow his race wheels this weekend for the time trial. Lightning fast, dude. Thanks.
Michael Dawdy gets a high five for keeping things in perspective for me and helping me regroup after Saturday's less than desirable finish.
Until next time race fans,
Billy Self
